Martin Faces Surgery Decision
Jorge Martin will decide whether to undergo surgery for arm pump after the Austrian Grand Prix, adding another complication to his intense 2026 MotoGP title fight.
The Aprilia rider suffered nerve compression in his right forearm during the San Marino GP at Misano and was due to undergo a specialist medical assessment in Barcelona before travelling to Austria.
The championship is level — but Martin now has a physical problem to manage.
Arm Pump Cost Martin at Misano
Martin's issue became particularly serious during Sunday's race.
After passing Marc Márquez and taking the lead, Martin began experiencing pain and loss of feeling in his right arm. His pace dropped dramatically, eventually leaving him fifth at the finish.
The result allowed Márquez to draw level with Martin on 274 championship points, with the Ducati rider taking the official lead on countback.
Austria Will Be the Key Test
Rather than immediately opting for surgery, Martin plans to race at the Red Bull Ring and evaluate how his arm responds.
A decision will then be made after the Austrian GP. Surgery remains an option, although Martin has acknowledged that any operation carries risks during such a critical stage of the championship.
Martin previously underwent surgery for arm pump in 2019, making this a problem he has dealt with before.
Title Fight Adds Pressure to Decision
For Winbox Racing, the timing could hardly be more significant.
Martin and Márquez enter Austria level on points, meaning Martin must balance his immediate championship ambitions against finding a longer-term solution to the problem.
